An SLK55 AMG blew past me on the highway this afternoon. Looked like it was pretty much brand new as it was sporting the revised 09 fascia. Anyways, we met up a minute later at THE stop light, side by side, clear road, high speed rating, no traffic, rural location.I nodded to the driver and deliberately reached up and switched on my V1. He knew what I wanted. My DD is a Merc and I have wondered for some time how the VerTT would do against this highly evolved german colleague from the venerable AMG. The HP of both cars is almost identical, but I give up about 90 lb-ft of torque and need to lose some weight. I get my torque and RPM at lower RPM though so fair enough. Plus he had the top up so he would have slightly better aerodynamics than I would. Anyways, I didn't expect to win, but I wondered if or how long I could hold him off. I beat him easily from the light (0 to 30 mph) and pulled away until about 50 mph. After 50 mph he started gaining on me (I could hear him - really loud exhaust). I was able to hold him off until 72'ish mph, at which point he nosed in front of me and by 90 mph his rear bumper was in line with the front of my front fascia. We didn't push it any further than that. Anyways, beating an AMG V8 from the line to 72 mph - that is why I built the high compression NATT in the first place. I will take it. :)
